Team Migaloo: Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge

We are Aidan and Tristan, Team Migaloo, who participates in the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge in December. On a 5000 kilometer journey, we cross the Atlantic Ocean in the most sustainable way possible to raise awareness for the enormous plastic soup problem which threatens our planet. With the huge challenge, we want to raise an incredible donation for The Ocean Moment. With this donation, they can organise more expeditions to motivate citizens to use plastic more responsibly.

Why take part?

Plastic is a versatile material that brought humanity a lot of comfort, safety and technological progress. We cannot envision a world without it anymore. At the same time, plastic is one of the biggest polluters and challenges of this moment. Still, every minute a truck full of plastic is being dumped into our oceans. When it enters our nature doesn't know what to do with it which means it builds up. Plastic is now found in every corner of the planet. The Ocean Movement isn't necessarily against the use of plastic. The Ocean Movement believes plastics shouldn't end up in nature because it affects its beauty and becomes a threat to humans and animals.

The Ocean Movement

The Ocean Movement (formerly known as “By the Ocean we Unite”) is a Dutch foundation with charitable status (ANBI) that wants to stop plastics to end up in our oceans. We conduct research, educate and activate people, organizations and governments through the organization of a variety of activities – sailing expeditions, lectures, documentaries – to make much-needed changes.

By joining forces with partners worldwide we increase our outreach and positive impact. Join us on our journey and help to protect our oceans, the animals and ourselves from plastic pollution.

As we still don't know how big the microplastic problem is, we conduct citizenship research onboard our expeditions. With every euro that is being donated, we can research another 40 meters of the ocean!
